전문직 여성의 은퇴 경험─ 직업 정체성을 유지하는 주체적인 삶 = The Retirement Experience of Professional Women: Constructing Independent Lives that Sustain Professional Identity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 전문직 은퇴 여성을 대상으로 질적 연구를 실시하여, 은퇴 전 종사했던 직종의 특성과 일-가족을 양립했던 삶의 방식이 은퇴생활에 영향을 준다는 것을 드러낼수 있었다.
전문직 은퇴 여성들은 현재의 여유로운 은퇴생활을 당연한 것으로 여기지 않고, 은퇴 전의 삶과 연계해서 설명하고자 했다. 이들은 노동시장에 지속적으로 참여했으며 당시의 성차별적 문화 하에서 실력으로 인정받기 위해 부단히 노력했다. 또한 일-가족 양립정책이 정착되지 않았던 시기에 직장생활을 했기 때문에 자녀양육과 가사노동은 개인적 차원에서 해결해야만 했다. 일과 가족 양쪽 모두에서 자신의 역할을 다하기 위해노력했다고 서술하면서 은퇴를 치열하게 살았던 삶에 대한 보상으로 여겼다.
전문직 은퇴 여성들은 퇴직 후 전업주부나 할머니가 되는 것을 자신의 중심 역할로여기지 않았고, 경제활동, 연구, 봉사, 취미활동 등에 참여하면서 주도적인 삶을 살고있었다. 어머니로서의 역할은 담당하지만 자신의 상황과 조건에 맞추어 주도적으로 행하려 하고, 퇴직 후 자신이 구축한 일상을 유지하는 것을 더 중요시하였다. 연구참여자중 절반가량은 퇴직 후 경제활동을 하고 있지만 삶의 균형을 유지하는 것에 초점을 두고, 재취업을 하게 된 경우에도 주 3일 근무, 보직을 맡지 않는 직책, 업무 스트레스가적은 직장을 선택했다.
전문직 은퇴 여성들은 이전 직업과 관련된 전문적 지식과 기술을 재취업뿐만 아니라취미, 봉사, 연구활동에도 활용하였다. 이들은 시간과 공간의 구조화를 통해 일상생활을 조직화하였고, 사회적 관계를 지속하고 복원하고자 했다. 특히 전문직 여성에게는 일상적인 관계보다는 직업과 관련한 인간관계, 업무와 관련된 상호작용이 중요한 것으로 나타났다.
본 연구는 은퇴 여성이 과거와 현재 경험을 협상하여 은퇴생활에서의 우선 순위 및생활방식을 결정한다는 것을 분석할 수 있었다. 또한 은퇴한 전문직 여성들의 주체적인삶을 통해 노동정체성을 가지고 있는 노년 여성의 존재를 드러냈다는 점에 의의를 둔다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study conducted a qualitative study on women who retired from professional jobs and was able to reveal that the characteristics of the occupation they worked in before retirement and the pre-retirement work-family lifestyle affected their retirement life.
Retired professional women did not take their current relaxed retirement life for granted, but tried to explain it in connection with their life before retirement. They continued to participate in the labor market and worked hard to be recognized for their skills in the sexist culture of the time. In addition, because they worked at a time when the work-family balance policies were not established, child rearing and housework had to be resolved on a personal level. Describing that they tried to fulfill their role in both work and family, they view retirement as a reward for a life lived intensely.
Retired professional women did not consider becoming a full-time housewife or grandmother to be their central role after retirement, and were leading their life by participating in economic activities, research, volunteer work, and hobby activities. Although they play the role of a mother, they try to take the initiative in accordance with her own situation and conditions, and placed more importance on maintaining the daily life she had established after retirement. About half of the study participants were economically active after retirement, but they focused on maintaining balance in their lives, and even when re-employed, they chose a three-day work week, a non-supervisory position, and a job with less work stress.
Retired professional women used their professional knowledge and skills related to their previous jobs not only for re-employment, but also for their hobbies, volunteer work, and research activities. They organized their daily lives through the structuring of time and space, and sought to sustain and restore social relationships. In particular, for professional women, job-related interpersonal relationships and work-related interactions were found to be more important than everyday relationships.
This study was able to analyze that retired women negotiate their past and present experiences to determine their priorities and lifestyle in retirement. In addition, it is significant in that it revealed the existence of elderly women who have a labor identity through research into the independent lives of retired professional women.
