The primary object of this thesis is to stress the importance of upgrading the level of skill training for employees in Korea electronics industries.
Electronics industries in Korea has remarkably been developed since the latter half of 1960s due to its labor-intensive characteristics.
The abundance of inexpensive and industrious workers with simple assembling skill contributed to the development of electronics industry in Korea.
Under the above favorable condition, most of the foreign-invested and joint-venture firms produce mainly electronics parts and components as transistors, integrated circuits, magnetic headers, and semiconductors.
But the rapid development of the domestic electronics industry was realized mainly through bonded or trusted processing export.
Generally speaking, the term training is used to indicate any process by which the aptitudes, skills, and abilities of employees to perform specific jobs are increased. Of course, the skill training would be effective when it is backed up with the aspect of education which denote to increase the knowledge, understanding, or attitude of employees so that they are better adjusted to their working environment.
But this thesis particularly concerns with the skill training aspect.
I investigated the actual condition of several electronics industries in Korea, employing over than 5,000 workers by means of an open-ended questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of two parts: one is On-the-Job training program and the other is Overseas training program.
Most of training programs in Korean industries are remained in the state of vestibule training for operating workers performing simple assembling skill acquired during short-term practices on the job.
In foreign markets, Korea is still in a more favorable position in the electronics parts and components fields rather than electronics equipment and appliances.
It is certainly important to expand the domestic market through mass production and thereby strengthen international competitive power.
Moreover, the demand of domestic and world market will be expected to change in the direction of suiting one's taste for newly designed articles and precision appliances.
To develop further Korean electronics industry, it will be highly demanded to produce brain-intensive industrial machinery and tools and military equipments and appliances which have higher additional value than that of electronics parts and components.
In a word, it is very urgent problem for Korea electronics industries to boost up the level of skill training for employees in order to meet the demand of domestic and world markets in 1980s.
In a high optional society, the value and function of merchandises are gradually changing from practical value to informative value and selective function. In accordance with this tendency, therefore, electronics manufactured goods must be able to satisfy all the above requisites, that is, consumer's needs.
To this demand, I would like to recommend that Goverment intensively invest much R&D expenses for the industry and separately install public vocational institutes of electronics technology with the purpose of supplying competent technicians as many as possible.
In addition, the current programs and evaluation process for Skill training of Korea electronics industries must be reexamined on the basis of efficiency and future trend.
