대학졸업 청년실업과 정신건강의 관계 - 자기회귀 교차지연 모형의 적용 : 대학졸업 청년실업과 정신건강의 관계 = The Relationship between Mental Health and Youth Unemployment among University Graduates: Applied with Autoregressive Crosslagged Model

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 청년실업과 정신건강의 관계를 자기회귀교차지연 모형을 통해 종단적으로 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 청년들의 실업 및 취업여부가 정신건강에 미치는 영향(노출가설)과 구직자의 정신건강이 실업 및 취업상태에 미치는 영향(선택가설)을 자기회귀교차 지연 모형으로 동시에 분석함으로써, 청년실업과 정신건강의 연쇄적 인과관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대학 졸업을 전후로 4차례에 걸쳐 정신건강과 실업 및 취업여부를 조사하였다. 국내 대학교 4학년생을 2528명을 대상으로 사전조사(1차 조사)를 실시하고 이후 약 6개월 간격으로 2차 조사, 3차 및 4차 조사를 실시하였다. 네 시점에서 모두 정신건강을 우울ㆍ불안 차원과 부적응 차원으로 측정하였고, 취업시기 이전인 1차 조사를 제외한 2, 3, 4차 조사에서 응답자들의 취업여부를 조사하였다. 이 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실업과 정신건강의 연쇄적 인과관계를 가정한 자기회귀교차 지연 모형은 매우 높은 모형 적합도롤 보이는 것으로 나타나 정신건강과 실업을 교호적관계로 파악하는 것이 타당함을 시사하였다. 둘째, 노출기설과 선택가설을 경로분석으로 확인한 결과 선택가설을 부분적으로 지지하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 구직초기의 스트레스는 추후의 실업여부와 정신건강 모두를 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 이 연구의 시사점과 제한점 및 추후 연구를 위한 제안점을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigated the longitudinal relationship between mental health and youth unemployment among university graduates using an autoregressive crosslagged model. The purpose of this study is to test two competing hypotheses about the casual relationship between mental health and unemployment. The first hypothesis states that the experience of unemployment influences mental health (exposure hypothesis). In contrast, the second hypothesis argues that the level of mental health causes unemployment (selection hypothesis). An autoregressive crosslagged model was applied to test these two rival hypotheses in a reciprocal sequence process model. To achieve this research purpose, we designed a longitudinal study composed of four surveys at a six-month interval. At all four points, participants were asked to answer a GHQ (General Health Questionnaire) to measure the level of mental health. GHQ consists of depression anxiety and maladjustment subscales. The data from 767 university graduates who identified their employment status was used for final analysis. The results showed that the autoregressive crosslagged model resulted in a fairly good fit to the datal indicating that the reciprocal sequence process between mental health and unemployment seems to be valid. Results from path analysis indicated that selection hypothesis was partially supported. Finally, the initial level of job searching stress was associated not only With the initial mental health but also With the following state of unemployment and mental health. The implications and limitations of this study are discussed and future directions of study are suggested.
