『채식주의자』의 한국어텍스트와 이탈리아어번역본 비교분석 = A Comparative Study of Korean Original Text and Italian Translated Text of The Vegetarian

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한강의 『채식주의자』는 2016년 인터내셔널 부커상을 수상한 후, 한국문학의 번역 문제 를 국내외에서 본격적으로 촉발시킨 작품이다. 지금까지『채식주의자』를 둘러싼 번역비평분석은한국어원문인데보라영어번역본『채식주의자』와스미스의과주로The Vegetarian을 중심으로 전개되어 왔으며, 영어 이외의 외국어로 번역된 『채식주의자』의 번 역 문제를 조망한 연구는 상대적으로 적었다고 할 수 있다.
본고에서는 한국어원문『채식주의자』와 이탈리아어번역본 La vegetariana를 비교분석하 여, 그간 영어번역본 중심의 번역담론을 이탈리아어번역본으로 확장시키고자 한다. 이탈리아 어번역본의 특수성은 영역본 The Vegetarian의 중역본이라는 사실에서 출발하지만, 영역본의 경계를 넘어 한국어원문에 내재된 ‘번역의 가능성’을 끌어내려는 이탈리아어번역가의 시도에 서도 나타나고 있다. 따라서 한국어원문이 이탈리아어번역텍스트로 옮겨질 때 발생하는 번역 가의 선택을 살펴보고, 이탈리아어본에서 새롭게 생성된 『채식주의자』를 조망하는 데 본 목적이 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

After winning the International Booker Prize in 2016, Han Kang’s 『채식주의자』 is a work that sparked the issue of translation of Korean literature at home and abroad. So far, translation criticism and analysis surrounding 『채식주의자』 have mainly focused on the Korean original 『채식주의자』 and Deborah Smith’s English translation of The Vegetarian, and the translation problem of 『채식주의자』 translated into foreign languages other than English. It can be said that there have been relatively few studies looking at.
In this paper, we compare and analyze the Korean original 『채식주의자』 and the Italian translation, La vegetariana, to expand the translation discourse that has focused on the English translation to the Italian translation. The uniqueness of the Italian translation begins with the fact that it is an intermediate version of the English version of The Vegetarian, but it is also revealed through the Italian translator’s attempts to go beyond the boundaries of the English version and bring out the ‘possibility of translation’ inherent in the Korean original. In addition to these characteristics of the Italian translation, we look at the translator’s strategic choices that occur when the culturally heterogeneous Korean original is transferred to the Italian translation, and the ‘active translation’ taken to increase understanding and readability of the original text. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the newly created 『채식주의자』.
