The purpose of this study was to explore the aspects in which Korean listeners perceive word class when prosodic factors and context are related. A perceptual experiment was conducted with 32 listeners to judge word class by listening to the sound stimuli. As a result, listeners could not phonetically distinguish word class when prosodic factors were controlled. This meant that it was difficult to identify word class without prosodic information. On the other hand, the perception of word class showed a different aspect depending on the prosodic position. Listeners identified prosodic position based on phonetic cues of stimuli and judged word class through this. Finally, a context effect on word class perception was observed. Given the surrounding context, listeners were more likely to perceive word class. This context effect appeared differently according to prosodic position. Overall, it was found that prosodic factors were closely related when Korean listeners perceived word class.
