      Objectives:The aim of this study was to examine the association of the Val66Met polymorphism of the brain-
      derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) with verbal memory and executive function in Korean bipolar patients.
      Methods:Sixty bipolar patients in a euthymic state were enrolled. All participants were genotyped for BDNF
      Val66Met polymorphism (rs6265) and performed the Verbal learning test (VLT), Wisconsin Card Sorting Test
      (WCST) and digit span test. Results:The genotype distribution was;17 (28%) Val/Val, 27 (45%) Val/Met and
      16 (27%) Met/Met. When divided into two groups according to the existence of Met allele, the group with Val/Val
      genotype showed better performance than the Met carrier group in all domains of VLT except delayed free recall
      and delayed cued recognition. But the results of WCST and digit span test showed no significant differences between
      the groups. Conclusion:The results of our study suggest that Met allele is associated with poor performance in
      VLT compared to Val allele in Korean bipolar patients. And our study’s results are consistent with the previous
      studies.
