It is aimed in this study to improve performance of polymeric ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with aid of carbon nanotube (CNT). For this purpose, CNTs were added to polysulfone (PS) solution to fabricate the CNT based mixed membranes. It is assumed that cap opening of CNT is important for membrane performance. Addition of CNTs with closed caps would lead to low permeability, while addition of CNTs with open caps to high permeability. Subsequently, both CNTs with closed and open caps were used for membrane manufacture. In order for cap opening, pristine CNTs were treated by mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Different amounts of CNT were added to pre-determined concentration of PS solution. The study result shows that membrane performance and structure could be affected by such as polymer content, solvent, and CNT content.
