예이츠의 중기시에 대한 인문치료적 접근 = 새로운 현실인식과 성장

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 『초록 투구와 기타 시편들』,『책임』,『쿨호의 야생 백조』,『마이클로바티즈와 무용수』등에 수록된 예이츠의 중기시를 인문치료적 관점에서 고찰한다. 인문치료는 인문학적 정신과 방법으로 현대인의 정신적?정서적 문제들을 예방하고 치유함으로써 마음의 건강과 행복한 삶을 추구하는 이론적?실천적 활동으로, 그 구체적 방법론 중의 하나인 시치료의 원리-시 감상 및 창작을 통해 삶의 위기를 극복하고 자아성장을 이룸으로써 삶의 변화 대처 능력을 기르는 행위-와 이 시기에 나타난 예이츠의 시작(詩作)을 통한 외적자아의 수용과 내적자 아와의 조화의 모색 과정이 서로 부합하기 때문이다. 새로운 현실인식으로 초기시의 약점을 보완하고 이전보다 더욱 사실적?객관적으로 성장?변모한 예이츠의 중기시는 자아와 반자아의 갈등 및 조화를 그 특징으로 한다. 반자아는 현실적 자아에 대한 이상적 자아로 서로 상반되는 개념이지만, 한 인간의 인격에서 그의 정체인 자아를 그의 이상(반자아)과 구분할 수 없듯이 양자는 서로 밀접한 관련을 지닌다. 양자가 조화를 이루기 위해서는 갈등이 필연적이며, 그것은 극적인 긴장감을 띠며 전개된다. 예이츠는 그 갈등을 좀 더 구체적으로 나타내기 위해 가면과 회전체의 이미지를 사용하고, ?둥근 탑 아래?와 ?마이클 로바티즈의 이중 비전?에서 갈등이 해소된 조화의 상태를 춤의 이미지로 묘사한다. 이렇게 볼 때, 예이츠의 중기시는 새로이 현실을 인식하고 자아의 성장을 이룸으로써 더욱 지혜롭게 변모했다고 볼 수 있으며, 이러한 주제는 인문치료의 목적과 맥을 같이 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines W. B. Yeats"s middle poetry in The Green Helmet and Other Poems, Responsibilities, The Wild Swans at Coole, and Last Poems from the viewpoint of humanities therapy. Humanities Therapy pursues mental health and happy living by preventing and curing mental and emotional problems of modern people with a humanistic spirit and method. One of its specific methodologies is poetry therapy. And the principle of poetry therapy that provides self-examination to those who suffer from mental crises coincides with the process of accepting the outer self and its harmony with inner self in Yeats"s middle poetry. The new perception of reality makes his middle poetry more public and realistic than before. Yeats, who had stuck to the inner world living in an outer world up to then, now pursues escape from the latter. It dominates his middle poetry which is a phase of conflict and harmony of the self and anti-self. The anti-self is the ideal self against the real self. These two concepts basically oppose each other but they are also closely related, for we can not distinguish the real self from the ideal self in one"s personality. Yeats describes the reconciled state of conflict between them, harmony, as an image of dance in "Under the Round Tower" and "The Double Vision of Michael Robartes." In this sense, Yeats"s middle poetry deals with the new perception of reality and the growth of the self and this theme coincides with the aim of poetry therapy, which I pay attention to.
