As the OECD firstly developed the frame of core competence aiming for cultivation of future talented people of the 21st century through‘DeSeCo project ’ , several countries designed competence-oriented national curriculum to reflect this. National curriculum is a necessary scale to lead desirable growth of students and effectively respond to the change of future society as the document that suggests common and general direction. In such trend, Korea and Singapore also amended curriculum based on core competence, particularly, it is significant that Singapore, which has achieved good result by concentrating on development of excellent competence by focusing on mathematics and science, has developed and reflected ‘2015 Syllabus General Music Program’, paying attention to music curriculum, and this research determined it is valuable as a target for comparative analysis.
Education of Singapore is a centralized educational system as Korea, however the document is not provided as in Korea in the type of outline, however the contents are provided per curriculum through amended syllabus, as the outline of Korea. Based on the analysis of the official document of the Ministry of Education, ‘2015 Syllabus General Music Program’, it was determined that the curriculum of Singapore had organization on the whole of the document, which clearly expressed, composing the curriculum consistently.
Here, this research aimed at suggesting helpful idea to Korean music curriculum and helping the students to have more effective music class based on the comparative data based on analyzing 2015 amended music curriculum of Korea and Singapore. Under this purpose, this research discussed the education system of Korea and Singapore, and the characteristics of amended curriculum, and analyzed in order of ‘aim, goal, content system, achievement standard, teaching • learning method and evaluation ’ focusing on the characteristic of elementary school • middle school music curriculum focusing on common curriculum. Particularly, since both Korea and Singapore established competence of curriculum with association by suggesting crosscurricular general competence and applying this to each curriculum, and developed curriculum to cultivate this, this research investigated focusing on this point.
The researcher wishes this research would be helpful for Korean music curriculum and educational development through cross-national comparative analysis of curriculum.
