멕시코지역 우리나라 기업 자회사의 해외직접투자 결정요인과 전략적 역할 유형에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 기업의 해외진출 다변화정책과 관련되어 멕시코에 진출한 우리나라 제조업체를 대상으로 해외직접투자 결정요인을 분석․차이점을 규명하고, 아울러 자회사의 전략적 역할을 유형화함으로써 경영성과의 차이점을 규명하였다. 36개의 해외직접투자 결정변수는 현지국 시장요인, 비용관련요인, 수직적 통합요인, 투자여건요인, 외부요청요인, 본국관련요인 등으로 분류되었고, 동일한 제조업종이라도 전자(부품)업종은 다른 업종에 비해 현지국 시장요인에서 높은 영향력이 나타났다. 또한 섬유업종은 비용관련요인, 플라스틱업종은 외부요청요인이 해외직접투자 결정에 영향력이 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 진입연수별 차이에서는 3년 이하 집단이 다른 집단에 비해 투자여건요인이 해외직접투자 결정에 높은 영향력을 나타내는 것을 확인하였다. 한편, 해외자회사 전략적 역할유형은 활동적, 수용적, 자율적, 무활동적 자회사 등으로 분류되었으며, 이들 간 해외직접투자 결정요인의 차이점은 현지국 시장요인에서는 유의미한 차이점이 나타나지 않았으나, 비용관련요인은 수용적 자회사, 수직적 통합요인은 자율적 자회사, 투자여건요인은 무활동적 자회사, 외부요청요인은 수용적 자회사, 본국관련요인은 활동적 자회사가 유의미하게 높은 영향력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 해외자회사의 전략적 역할유형별 경영성과의 차이에서는 인지된 경쟁력 수준이 가장 높은 유형은 활동적 자회사로 나타났으며, 투자수익률에서는 자율적 자회사, 영업이익률에서는 수용적 자회사가 가장 높은 실적을 보인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 기업의 해외직접투자 결정요인은 해외자회사 전략적 역할유형을 결정짓는 요인이 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 전략적 역할유형에 따라 경영성과의 차이점을 실증적으로 발견한 것은 실무적으로 세계경영을 추구하고 있는 우리나라 기업들에게 경쟁우위를 극대화하기 위한 전략수립의 하나의 대안이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to determine the basic factors for implementing the foreign direct investment (FDI) and to classify the strategic role of foreign subsidiaries of the 106 Korean firms in Mexico whether the basic factors show differences among 4 different types of manufacturing and entry’ years and performances show differences among 4 different types of strategic role of foreign subsidiaries. The results are that 36 variables can be divided 6 factors, market condition of host country(MCH), cost condition(CC), vertical integration condition(VIC), investing condition(IC), outside requesting condition(ORC), pushing condition of home country(PCH) as the FDI factors for Korean firms in Mexico. MCH is much higher influence than others on the electronic components business, CC is much high influence on the textile business, and ORC is much higher influence on the plastic products business. Meanwhile, the less than 3 years’ group is influenced much higher than the other’s group by the IC. The 4 types of the Korean subsidiaries’ strategic role in Mexico are also classified as active(AT), autonomous(AU), receptive(RC), quiescent(QU) as the previous research by using the I-R framework. While the MCH does not show statistical difference by the strategic roles of foreign subsidiaries, AT is much higher influenced by the PCH, and AU is influenced by the VIC. RC is influenced by the CC and the ORC, and QU is influenced by the IC. Finally, there are significant difference in performance by the 4 different types of strategic role in Korean firms. AT is significant higher on the level of competitiveness, AU is significant higher on the degree of the return of investment(ROI) and RC is significant higher on the degree of the operating profit margins(OPM).
