When an automobile is braked, all or most part of its kinetic energy disappears in the form
of waste heat to the ambient. A possible way is investigated to convert some of this braking
energy to useful electrical energy which will improve fuel economy of the vehicle by reducing
the power to derive the alternator. With some extra batteries and the standard alternator of
overall efficiency around 20% the study indicates that the fuel efficiency of the small passenger
cars can be improved about 2 percent in FTP 75 mode.
