UTAH와 공존하는 반례의 성격: 한국어 대격 피동문의 경우 = The Properties of the counterexamples co-existing with the UTAH: The Accusative Passive in Korean

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper, I first show that the adversative passive and the lexical accusative passive in Korean constitute genuine
counterexamples to the UTAH in Baker (1988, 1997). Given that the systematic correspondence between lexical semantics and syntactic structure captured in terms of the UTAH might be the result of the bare output condition imposed by the C-I, the co-existence of the UTAH and its counterexamples would remain a mystery. As a solution to the mystery, I propose that the co-existence itself is possible or available since Merge is in principle optional and is possible between any syntactic objects. If this proposal is in the right direction, it shows that the Minimalist framework is valid and that Merge is a true syntactic mechanism irreducible to any interface system.
