과학기술분야 외국학술지 공동활용에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Sharing of Scientific and Technological Journals

Journals are the most important resources in the fields of science and technology. In terms of the fact of this, it seems to be vital that foreign journals should be shared among different institutes. The main purpose of this study is to seek the methods for sharing foreign journals of science and technology through online.
A survey was carried out for this study in order to find out the reality of sharing activities for foreign scientific and technological journals in Korea. The questionnaire asks whether and how the journals are being shared and what are the problems in using the sharing systems. The results showed the following problems that hinder the eficient sharing activities for information resources and the effective conduct of the Electronic Document Delivery Service (EDDS).
(1) Overlap among services and system functions provided by institutes operating the EDDS.
(2) Need to open computer systems and build a network.
(3) Double holding of journals in different institutes.
(4) Insufficient digital documents.
(5) Need to organize a nationwide library association.
(6) Problems related to standardization and copyright.
(7) Lack of an integrated union catalog.
For efficient sharing of foreign scientific and technological journals, the followings are suggested : First, solutions to these problems should be found and improvements suitable for the present situation should be sought. Second, the EDDS for information resources should be activated and further research to solve EDDS-associated problems should be conducted. Last, electronic selves should be built through expanding digital contents, so that the EDDS can be used in an efficient way.
