한국사회 노년 후기 여성의 삶의 재평가와 자아통합 = Life Revaluation and Ego-Integrity of Korean Women Aged 75 or Older

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 한국사회에서 노인후기 여성들이 자신의 전생애 삶을 어떻게 이해하고 있는지를 알아보는것으로, 이를 통해 그들이 어떻게 자신의 삶을 재평가하는지 그 틀을 파악할 수 있고, 더 나아가 다른 세대의사람들이 이들을 이해할 수 있는 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 참여자는 노인후기에 해당하는 75세부터 83세까지의여성 16명이었다. 반 구조화된 질문지에 기초한 일대일 면접을 사용하여, 참여자들로 하여금 자신의 삶을 회고하도록 했다. 현상학적 연구방법을 이용한 자료분석 결과, 아동청소년기는 4개의 평가영역에서 6개의 주제, 성인기는 4개의 평가영역에서 5개의 주제, 노년기는 7개의 평가영역에서 8개의 주제가 도출되었다. 또한, 참여자대부분은 비교적 자신의 삶의 점수를 높게 평가하고 있었다. 객관적인 조건이 훌륭하지는 않았지만 지나온 삶을 긍정적으로 수용하고 있었다. 현재 삶을 의미 있게 만드는 요인에는 자녀와 종교가 있었으며, 대부분은 함께 늙어가는 자식들에게 짐이 되지 않을까 하는 걱정과 함께 다가오는 죽음을 긍정적으로 수용하고 있었다.
이러한 결과를 발달과 문화적 관점에서 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of the present study is at examining how the oldest old in Korea see their whole life,which is expected to provide a frame with which the aged like participants can reevaluate their own life and to produce findings of service to the younger generation in understanding the old. As participants, sixteen Korean women aged 75 or older were interviewed on the basis of semi-structured questionnaire, being asked to recollect their whole life. Data analysis, which was based on a phenomenological research method, indicated that four themes were derived from four evaluation areas for a child and adolescent period, five themes from four evaluation areas for adulthood, and eight themes from seven evaluation areas for old age. Further, most of participants rated their life high and accepted their past life positively despite general conditions in adversity.
Children and religion were those elements making participants' life meaningful. They also had acceptive attitudes toward death with a hope that their life would not be a burden to their children.
These findings were discussed in a developmental and cultural perspective.
