    Luster glaze is a decorative technique that imparts a distinctive metallic sheen to ceramic surfaces. It originated in 6th or 7th century Egypt, where early methods utilized copper and silver, and later evolved in the 9th century with Mesopotamia serving as a key hub. This development led to the creation of the first true luster glaze in Egypt. Over time, this traditional technique has been reinterpreted by modern artists, playing a significant role in the creation of diverse and innovative art forms. This study aimed to determine the optimal firing conditions for achieving the characteristic metallic luster on ceramics. The process began with an initial oxidation firing to enhance the structural integrity of the ceramics and ensure proper glaze adherence. This was followed by reduction firing at temperatures ranging from 600°C to 890°C using a gas kiln. During this phase, oxygen supply was restricted, and the gas-to-air ratio was precisely controlled to create an accurate reduction atmosphere, which proved essential for the formation of the luster effect. The findings revealed that glazes containing copper and silver produced a variety of hues and metallic lusters, depending on the conditions of the reduction firing. By analyzing the effects of temperature ranges and firing durations, the study identified key factors influencing the aesthetic outcomes of luster glaze. This research not only expands the understanding of luster glaze techniques but also provides valuable insights into enhancing ceramic artistry. Furthermore, it lays the groundwork for future exploration of new metal oxide and glaze combinations to create innovative colors and finishes, further enriching the artistic possibilities of this centuries-old technique.
