In the last three years, there were 18,179 cases of fire outbreaks in Seoul. Among them, 7,225 cases
(39.5%) broke out at home, while 10.5% occurred indoors, including restaurants. As a result of these
fires, 103 people died and properties were damaged. However, the installation rate of residential fire
fighting facilities is only 30.47%. In the paper, we developed a real-time fire prevention system that can
be useful at home or offices using simple and inexpensive equipments such as Aduino, environmental
sensors, laptops, and smartphones, and proved its effectiveness by experiments. In the system, five
sensors were used to monitor environment such as carbon monoxide, gas, flames, temperature, and
humidity, all of which proved to work correctly. In addition, we suggested an algorithm to determine
the degree of the fire risk using the data collected from the five sensors.
