보육원 여성들이 미래 설정 과정에서 경험한 행위 주체성에 관한 질적 연구 = A qualitative Study on the Agency of Women from Orphanages

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to analyze the experiences of agency among women
who grew up in orphanages in South Korea, where the ideology of
normal family is deeply internalized in society. As parents’ dedication
to their children’s independence is highly emphasized, the absence of
family support further intensifies the vulnerability of these women. In
contrast to previous studies that analyzed the situations of children in
orphanages, this study highlights these women as active agents of
change and focuses on analyzing their narratives. Through snowball
sampling the researcher identified five participants to capture their
experiences vividly. The results reveal that these women experienced
marginalization and othering in their early years, unable to fit into the
norms of a “normal family.” Despite the confusion caused by such
experiences they were able to reflect on their past, envision a positive
future, and successfully control their present lives.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 정상 가족 이데올로기가 내면화되어 있는 한국 사회에서 성장한 보육원 출
신 여성들의 행위 주체성 경험을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 한국 사회는 자녀의 자립을
위한 부모의 헌신이 강하기 때문에 부모의 지원이 없다는 것은 이들의 취약성이 더욱 극
대화된다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구는 보육원 아동의 실태와 상황에 초점을 둔 기존 연
구와 달리 보육원 출신 여성을 적극적인 변화의 주체(agents of change)로 가정하고 이들
의 적극적이고 능동적인 삶의 경험들을 분석하는데 강조점을 두고 있다. 연구자는 스노
우 샘플링을 통해 모두 5명의 연구참여자를 발굴하였으며 이들의 경험을 질적 연구를 통
해 담아내고자 하였다. 연구결과, 이들은 초등학교 저학년 시기 정상 가족의 테두리 밖
의 타자가 되는 경험을 하였다. 이런 초기 경험으로 이들은 혼란과 위축감을 겪기도 하
였다. 그러나 이들은 스스로 과거를 성찰하고 미래를 긍정적으로 예측하며 목표를 세웠
다. 이 과정에서 보육원 여성들은 현재의 삶을 통제해나가며 행위 주체성을 발휘하였다.
