전환의 시대와 젠더: 상품의 생산을 넘어 삶의 생산으로 = The Era of Transformation and Gender: Beyond Commodity Production Towards Life Production

Today we are living in the ‘Era of Transformation.’ Going through the COVID-19 pandemic, the voices are growing who say that we must move on to exploring a new alternative mode of living. The most urgent thing is to look at the era of transformation from a gender perspective and to find a way to create a society that places care for each other and nature at the center. For this purpose, this article focuses on the need for a shift from an ‘imperial mode of living’ which is based on ‘commodity production’ to a ‘solidarity mode of living’ which is based on ‘life production.’ By locating the significance of care work as subsistence activities, which maintain and create life, and its equal distribution at the core of the transformation, this article emphasizes that we have to turn to the pursuit of a good life rather than maximizing profits in the era of transformation after COVID-19. To this end, Chapter 2 introduces various discussions that interpret the era of transformation, while mentioning the need to view this transformation from a gender perspective. Chapter 3 critically examines what commodity production means, which the imperial mode of living is focused on, and what its limitations are, from a gender perspective. Furthermore, Chapter 4 explores the meaning of life production, which is emerging as a new alternative for the mode of living, and what a solidarity mode of living is, and how to realize it. Finally, in Chapter 5, which is the concluding remark, the discussions so far are briefly summarized and directions for future research are sketched.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 우리는 ‘전환의 시대’를 살고 있다. 코로나19 팬데믹을 거치며 새로운 대안적 생활양식의 탐색으로 나아가야 한다는 목소리가 커지고 있다. 전환의 시대를 젠더 관점에서 조망하며 서로와 자연에 대한 돌봄을 중심에 놓는 사회를 만들어 나가기 위한 방안을 찾아나가는 것이 무엇보다 시급한 가운데, 이 논문은 ‘상품의 생산’에 바탕을 둔 ‘제국적 생활양식’으로부터 ‘삶의 생산’에 바탕을 둔 ‘연대적 생활양식’으로의 전환의 필요성을 강조하는 한편으로, 삶/생명/생활을 유지하고 창조하는 자급 활동으로서의 돌봄 노동의 의의와 이의 평등한 분배를 전환의 핵심에 위치 지움으로써 코로나19 이후 전환의 시대에는 이윤 극대화가 아니라 좋은 삶의 추구로 방향을 돌려야 한다는 점을 조명하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 먼저 2장에서는 전환의 시대를 해석하는 다양한 논의들을 소개하는 한편으로, 전환의 시대를 젠더 관점에서 조망할 필요성에 대해 언급한다. 이어지는 3장에서는 상품의 생산과 이에 초점이 맞춰진 제국적 생활양식이란 무엇이며 젠더 관점에서 볼 때 그 한계는 무엇인지를 비판적으로 살펴본다. 나아가 4장에서는 대안적 생활양식을 모색하는 과정에서 새로운 대안으로 떠오르고 있는 삶의 생산과 이에 초점이 맞춰진 연대적 생활양식이란 무엇이며 어떻게 이를 실현해 나갈 수 있는지를 탐색한다. 마지막으로 맺음말에 해당하는 5장에서는 지금까지의 논의를 간략히 정리하고 앞으로의 연구가 나아갈 방향에 대해 언급하며 마무리한다.
