MR. EDITOR:--I presume you are aware that many denominations of Christians are wont, quite honestly (but as I presume ignorantly), to declaim with much vehemence against all creeds, confessions of faith, and disciplines; and while they have assumed the position to be true, that all creeds have a direct tendency to produce ecclesiastical contentions, religious factions, and pulpit criminations, they have as plausibly maintained, that creeds never fail to enervate Scripture influence on the mind of professors, vitiate their taste for the Bible in its simple uncommented state; and instead thereof, substitute the withering desire for theological disputations, and thereby produce spiritual declension in believers, as well as detract from the gospel its pristine simplicity, truth, and influence.
