      This article study theoretical base for the Won-Buddhism elderly welfare work under the premise 'The religion's role in social welfare'.
      In Korea society, the Won-Buddhism which starts as Korean popular religion in modern times, has played an important part about 'The religion's role in social welfare' together with some existing religious. Welfare service connected with the Won-Buddhism are 6 social welfare corporations, affiliated 15 organizations and about 50 institutions to take an active part in various sections.
      In this situation, Won-Buddhism elderly welfare service has developed as variety and professional welfare work by the nation welfare policy. This article is centering around elderly welfare facilities data and related literature of Won-Buddhism. and on the whole frame construct like this ; the relation between religion and social welfare, changing process of Won-Buddhism elderly welfare, its present condition, elderly welfare idea as well as practical idea and the question in elderly welfare.
      The discussion of the study inquired into elderly welfare in Won-Buddhism not only existence ontological understanding of being the old age's meaning but also axiological access, because a religion guide welfare of spirit and elderly welfare secure life of old ages.
      First, I insist existence relation principles(namely, idea of mutual help) and practical idea-helpless protection. These are religions humanism movement with immanent human dignity.
      Second, I insist life relation principles(namely, idea of harmony) and practical idea-helping and being indebted to one another. It is symbiotic social movement that the youth and old helping each other.
      Third, I explain equality relation principles(namely, idea of great one) and practical idea-selfless service for the public. It has a feature for old age's life movement which is over the conflict structure prejudice or discrimination.
      Won-Buddhism elderly welfare has not simply object on individual prosperity, either it has immanent pragmatism thinking, raising life quality together with both living and neighborhood.
      By my analysis result, in Won-Buddhism elderly welfare, I grasp a immanent basic principle of social welfare - human dignity·assistance for self support·social unity , also find a practical idea as synthetic human service and community moral sense.
      This article has a view of a question for Won-Buddhism elderly welfare to take charge from an aging society·information society·citizen society.
      First, elderly welfare needs practice campaign with filial piety, which is based on religious humanism in an aging society.
      Second, welfare also needs linked (welfare, religion, region) community consciousness recovery from the network assistance in an information society.
      Third, elderly welfare emphasizes activation of old people's interests campaign in a community, which will be able to develop social morality and sense of common bonds to the youth and old cultures in a citizen society.
