This paper examines the role of the African diversity on the income level and institutions in the large data set built by Alesina et als(2002). With the inclusion of interactive terms of the regional dummies and diversity measures, it is revealed that African diversity has no accelerating effect on the African growth tragedy. It does not mean, however, that the path from absolutely higher degree of ethnic diversity of Africa to the tow level of income of the region should be denied. It is also revealed that the ethnic diversity has limited impacts on the quality of institutions in Africa.
