Research on the Korean Presbyterian Church Women's Ordination Controversy

In the Korean Presbyterian Church, the issue of women's ordination is an important factor in determining the theological identity of each denomination. In recent years, this issue has been debated again, especially by conservative denominations. This study aims to comprehensively examine the debate on women's ordination in the Presbyterian Church (Korea) and to suggest the right direction in relation to the debate on women's ordination in the Korean church. Therefore, the second part of this study will examine the controversial issues related to women's ordination from the perspectives of complementarianism and egalitarianism, followed by the trend of women's ordination in overseas churches in the third part, and the trend of women's ordination in the Korean church in the fourth part. It can be said that women's ordination in the Korean church has already reached its peak. The denominations that have the theological soil to allow women's ordination have already moved towards allowing it, and the debate on women's ordination has reached a point where there are enough positions to allow and disallow it. All that remains is the choice to hold on to denominational identity and theological continuity or to abandon it. Each denomination needs to engage in healthy discussion and debate on the issue of women's ordination, respecting the theological positions of other denominations, but within the context of denominational theology and denominational identity.
