문학과 정치의 경계:저항시 장르와 문학사 = The boundary between literature and politics : The genre of resistance poetry and the history of literature

국문 초록 (Abstract)

`저항시`는 한국근대사의 정치적 현실과 밀접하게 연관되면서 문학 언어를 통해 불의의 억압에 저항하고, 사회적 변혁과 진보를 이끌어내는 데 주요한 역할을 해 왔다. 그러나 한편으론 저항시에 관한 정치적 의미의 분석과 평가에 집중함으로써 문학 이론적인, 또 문학사적인 연구는 소략한 편이다. 이에 본 연구는 저항시가 가진 문학과 정치 사이의 경계성을 의식하면서도 문학론의 관점에서 그간 소홀했던 `저항시`에 관한 개념화 작업을 통해 저항시에 대한 올바른 문학사적 위상에 대해 논의를 개진시키고 있다. `저항시`에 대한 장르적 접근을 통해 역사적 장르로서의 저항시의 개념을 제안하고, 저항시의 미적 특성 분석을 통해 저항시가 문학과 정치가 만나는 경계에서 탄생함으로써 긴장과 역동의 언어가 가능한 지점임을 밝히고 있다. 이를 위해 우선 `저항시란 일본 식민지 시기 일제의 억압에 저항하며 민족의식을 지향하고 있는 시`라는 정의를 세우고 해방 이후의 저항적 작품들에 관한 양식적 관점에서의 고찰을 행하고 있다. 장르 연구가 독자에게 문학작품이 어떻게 제시되고, 향유되는가에 대한 관심이라는 점에서 제시형식으로서의 시적 주체, 즉 화자의 문제를 통해 저항시의 구조를 분석하고 있다. 저항시는 저항의지를 가진 시적 주체와 그가 투쟁할 대상을 제시하는 방식으로 이루어져 있으며 나아가 억압을 극복하고 도달할 세상을 향한 시적 주체의 비전 및 이상(理想)이 제시되고 있다. 시인의 정치적 열망이 이상 세계에 대한 동경으로 표현되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 또 주목할 사항은, 화자가 전달하려는 저항의 메시지를 은폐시키는데 이것이 상징을 통해 드러난다는 것이다. 특이한 점은 이때 상징의 의미에 대한 해독이 당대 정치적 억압을 함께 경험한 독서 대중들과의 문화적 상징의 공유를 통해 이루어진다는 사실이다. 따라서 독서대중의 정치적 의식이 문학적 감수성과 만나는 지점에서 상징의 효과가 달성된다. 해방 이후 저항시 장르는 소멸되었지만 그 양식은 남아 있어 지속적으로 창작되고 있는데, 60년대 이후 반외세와 탈식민을 지향하는 시, 70년대 반독재와 민주화를 추구하는 시, 80년대 노동해방과 계급해방을 노래하는 시 등에서 저항시의 장르적 특성이 양식으로 계승되고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

`Resistance poetry,` closely related to the political reality in the modern history of Korea, has played an important role in resisting unrighteous oppression via literary language and inducing social reform and progress. However, there has been a handful of theoretical or historical research on literature, with the focus having been on the analysis and criticism of political implication with regard to the resistance poems. Thus this paper, while conscious of the boundary between literature and politics which is innate to the resistance poetry, brings up the discussion on the proper status of the resistance poetry in the history of literature by virtue of conceptualizing the `resistance poetry,` which has been neglected from the perspective of literary theory. The approach to the `resistance poetry` in terms of genre suggests the notion of resistance poetry as a historical genre, and points out through the analysis of aesthetic properties that the resistance poetry enables the language of both tension and dynamics since it was born on the borderline which is the rendezvous of literature and politics. To this end, this paper presents the definition of the `resistance poetry as poetry that aims at national consciousness while opposing the suppression by Japanese imperialism in the colonial period by Japan,` and it examines the post-Liberation verses of resistance from the stylistic point of view. Since the research of genre investigates how a literary work is presented to and enjoyed by readers, the analysis of the resistance poetry deals with the structure of resistance poems through poetic subjects, i.e. speakers, as the format of presentment. Resistance poems consist of the poetic subjects with defying will and the objects that they fight with, and presents the poetic subjects` vision and ideal of the world that they aim to achieve after having overcome the oppression. That is, the poets` political desire is expressed as aspiration toward an ideal world. What is noteworthy is that the speakers` intended message of resistance is concealed while it is revealed via symbolism. Interestingly, the interpretation of the symbolism can be established by sharing cultural symbolism with the readers who have experienced the political oppression in the same period. Therefore, the effects of symbolism can be achieved at the point where the readers` political awareness meets up with literary sensitivity. The resistance poetry have disappeared since the Liberation, but its style survives in the creation of poems. That is, its characteristics of resistance have been succeeded by the genre of the poems which strive with foreign influence and colonialism after the 1960s, the poems in the pursuit of anti-dictatorship and democratization in the 1970s, and the poems that seek after liberation of labor and class in the 1980s.
