Manufacturing enterprises have faced a strong pressure to obey the complex regulation related to product, which are getting more complicated. Their management activities have been also restricted by these regulations such as the ban on importing and marketing of products including dangerous materials, the regulation of carbon gas emission, and so on. In these trends, most makers of end products and components are already aware of the seriousness or importance of this situation because they have the final responsibility of product liability. However, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have confronted the difficulty to cope with the regulations using poor systems comparing to global enterprises. As a tool to support SMEs, this study proposes the green BOM system which deals with the world"s environmental regulations by managing components’ material based on bill-ofmaterial (BOM) systematically. The green BOM system was designed to cope with the EU regulations such as RoHS and WEEE, the bases of environmental regulations. SMEs can manage technical documents of material such as the material inspection sheet, certification, and the material master to be the standard of material control and also supervise the material properties, ingredients, and recycling ratios of end products/components. The green BOM system also provides SMEs with the powerful material report which shows the validity of end products/components to obey the regulations. One of its strong merits is to share these information with customers and suppliers directly and synchronously.
