The main purpose of this study is to find the exact origin-destination composition of import and export container traffics in Korea, because it is very important data to decide where to build ports or roads. The samples that are collected at the gates of 28 ports during 3 months in 2001 are 3.82% of total container volume in Korea. Contrary to our expectation, container volume to and from Metropolitan area only explain 28.7%. Before this study, many people expect the ratio will be about 40%. Gwangyang container port is yet far from national port because it heavily relys on near provinces, such as Junranamdo, Junrabugdo, and Gwangju. These three provinces explain 70.1% of throughputs of Gwangyang container port.
