School is the place where most social interaction is experienced during adolescence, and the adolescents develop social skills (responsibility and self-expression ability) by interacting with others in school. COVID-19(Coronavirus Disease) has caused many changes in the form of classes in the secondary education. Students are unable to attend school normally, and the proportion of non-face-to-face classes is increasing rather than face-to-face classes.
Non-face-to-face classes in which students learn individually reduce the opportunities to interact with other students. Thus, the responsibility and self-expression ability that are enhanced by interaction could be lacking. It is necessary to study of teaching and learning methods to improve students’ responsibility and self-expression ability in the post COVID-19.
The purpose of this research is to develop the teaching and learning process plan for secondary students to develop the responsibility and self-expression ability. The proposed teaching and learning process plan applies flipped learning method that enables online and offline classes. Through this process, students' responsibility and self-expression ability, which may be lacking due to non-face-to-face classes, can be improved, and it is expected that it will be possible to present a more efficient teaching and learning process that can be applied in the post-COVID-19 era.
In this study, literature reviews were conducted with three themes. First, teaching and learning process plan for developing responsibility and self-expression ability were investigated. Second, the effect of chorus class on the development of responsibility and self-expression ability was investigated. Third, the appropriateness of the application of the flipped learning methodology to conduct a activity-oriented class was investigated. Through the above analysis, the differentiation of this study was presented, and a secondary chorus teaching and learning process plan was developed for fostering responsibility and self-expression ability based on the implications and results of previous studies. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, flipped-learning that enables activity-oriented classes was applied, and each of three classes was developed to foster responsibility and self-expression ability.
The results of this study are as follows. First, the responsibility of students can be fostered through the secondary chorus teaching and learning process plan for the development of responsibility. Through various activities conducted in class, students will be taught responsibility, and furthermore, they will fulfill their personal duties in society, consider and respect others, and form a community-centered thinking, which will have a great impact on the social development of students. Second, students’ self-expression ability can be fostered through the secondary chorus teaching and learning process plan for development of self-exprssion ability. Through various activities conducted in class, they will be communicate their thoughts and feelings with confidence in society to handle conflicts skillfully and maintain smooth interpersonal relationships.
