This thesis is to investigate the meaning of death education in an elementary school years and to propose an actual program to teach them. The findings could be summarized as follows.
Life and death are, as we usually think, not a separate one. Both are located in a same or continued circle. Death education is not the pure preparation of comfort death, but that of realizing essential nature of human existence. So death education should study both life and death, and be begun at an early periods of life even in elementary school years.
The contents of death educations could include understanding of identity of oneself, recognizing the importance of life, the connectedness of life with other people, the right understanding of death, how to see the feeling of grief and loss who experienced death of significant others, and participating in real service activity for neighbours.
At an elementary school periods, the main approach to make the courses of death education could be as one of extracurricular activities or special programs. In this case the program should be made with reference to the emotional or intellectual developments of elementary school students. In this paper I proposed a stage-based program(10 sub-parts). With this program, our children can get the sense of real positive life.
