19세기 선비들의 글쓰기 방식 고찰① -<양제해 역모 사건>의 관변 기록 = A Study on the Writing Styles of 19th-Century Scholars

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 조선말 선비들의 글쓰기 양상에 대한 고찰이다. 그 첫 번 째로 <양제해 모변 사건>의 관변 기록을 다룬다. 양제해 사건은 아전들의 횡포에서 일어났다. 조선은 그들에게 녹봉(祿俸)을 주지 않았다. 아사 직전의 그들이 계를 만들어 주린 배를 채웠다. 후환을 없애려고 관백(官伯)까지 끌여들여 착취와 횡포를 합법화 했다. 결국 양제해 사건은 아전들의 간악함과 그들과 결탁한 목민관의 부패가 낳은 비극이다. 원인은 항산항심(恒産恒心)을 무시한 조정에 있었지만 용기 있는 백성들에게 돌렸다.
<양제해 모변 사건>의 기록에는 체제를 유지하고 강화하려는 무의식만 팽배해 있다. 여기에 장애가 되는 사람은 누구든든 불순분자로 간주하고 그들의 목숨을 앗았다. 집 안 단속만 하면 된다 여겼다. 그래서 19세기 조선 관료들의 글쓰기에는 격변하는 세계 인식이 없다. 산업혁명과 제국주의라는 파고 앞에서도 그들은 고요했다. 청나라의 쇠락, 거기서 파생된 사회적 불안과 농민반란을 남의 일로만 여겼다. 여전한 사대주의, 경학 중심, 고문 추종의 글쓰기에 묻혀 있었다. 그래서 현실비판에서 나오는 실사구시가 있을 리 없다. 양제해 사건에 관한 기록은 그런 면면을 여실히 보여준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay examines the writing patterns of scholars during the late Joseon Dynasty. It first addresses the official records related to the "Yang Je-hae treason case." The Yang Je-hae Incident arose from the tyranny of the local clerks (ajeon). The Joseon government did not provide them with official salaries, leaving them on the brink of starvation. To stave off hunger, they formed associations to secure food, and to eliminate future risks, they even brought in high-ranking officials to legitimize their exploitation and tyranny. Ultimately, the Yang Je-hae Incident was a tragedy born of the cunning of these clerks and the corruption of the local governors who colluded with them. While the root cause lay in the government's disregard for the principle of "constant livelihood, constant mind" (hangsan hangsim), the blame was shifted onto the courageous common people.
The records of the "Yang Je-hae treason case" are filled with an unconscious desire to maintain and strengthen the existing system. Anyone who posed a threat to this was considered a dissenter and was stripped of their life. The authorities believed that all they needed to do was manage internal affairs. Consequently, the writings of 19th-century Joseon officials show no awareness of the rapidly changing world. Even in the face of the Industrial Revolution and the waves of imperialism, they remained indifferent. They viewed the decline of the Qing Dynasty, and the resulting social unrest and peasant revolts, as someone else's problem. Their writings were still steeped in Sinocentrism, focused on Confucian studies, and followed classical texts. As a result, there was no practical approach or realistic perspective emerging from a critique of reality. The records concerning the Yang Je-hae Incident clearly reflect these characteristics.
