Through the research on adult disease patients in long-term care facilities, we have looked into the effects of how collective art therapy relieves malaise and social isolation of adult disease patients through recollection and have monitored the changes through processes of each stage.
Upon the recommendation of the General Manager of the education department of the O long-term care facility in J city, we have executed the test for malaise and social isolation on 10 adult disease patients and selected the final 5 patients that had the highest score but it has been narrowed down to 3 patients due to the dismissal of 2 patients. Before implementing the program we have executed the K-HTP as a pre-test and have gone through a total of 20 cycle of collective art therapy has compared the progress for each stage and individual. For post tests, we have executed the similar tests as of the pre-test.
The research duration was between February 14th 2011 to April 22nd and had implemented a total of 20 programs that was executed twice a week from 3:30 PM?4:30 PM.
In terms of research tools, we have used the social isolation tool based on Miller(1992)'s Powerlessness Scale and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PASS) and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression(CES-D) for pre and post test tools and have compared each individual's process of the collective art therapy for 20 cycles.
From this research we have found the following results.
First, the collective art therapy through recollection has affected the relief of malaise of adult disease patients in long-term care facility.
Second, the collective art therapy through recollection has affected the relief of social isolation of adult disease patients in long-term care facility.
Through the above research, it has been proven that the collective art therapy through recollection can relieve the malaise and social isolation of adult disease patients in long-term care facility. However, it is difficult to generalize the test results and we need to do more research on the moderator and art therapy considering the characteristics of the subject. Also, as there are limited theories and theses in Korea and as there are no art therapy program for adult disease patients, additional research is needed.
