정상과 비정상, 그리고 이방인

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 ‘정상’과 ‘비정상’이 선험적으로 결정되어진 사안이 아니며 사회?도덕적인 문제와 밀접히 관련되어있음을, 이른바 ‘비정상’으로 특징 지워진 ‘이방인’의 모습과 병치시켜 살펴보고 있다. 구체적으로 이 논문은 ‘정상’과 ‘비정상’의 경계가 애매모호할 뿐만 아니라 왜 ‘정상’이 그토록 ‘비정상’에 심한 거부반응을 나타내는지에 대해서도 다루고 있다. 그러한 현실에도 불구하고 사회세계에서 ‘비정상’이 존재한다는 것이 어떻게 ‘정상’적인 현상이 되는지에 대해, 그리고 나아가 ‘정상’적인 것 자체를 위해 ‘비정상’적인 것들이 왜 필요한지에 대해서도 논의하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로, 이 논문은 이질적이고 기괴하고 ‘비정상’적으로 보이는 ‘이방인’이 이른바 자신들을 ‘정상’적이라고 주장하는 특정 사회집단의 토박이들을 위해서 어떤 기여를 할 수 있는 지에 대해서도 분석하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article revisits the problem of "normalcy and abnormalcy", which has been elaborated by those who are remarkably eminent in sociology such as Emile Durkheim, Erving Goffman, Harold Grafinkel, Michael Foucault, etc. They deliberately suggest that the problem of "normalcy and abnormalcy" be not a matter of a priori, rather be heavily interconnected with the social-moral issue of a society. Fully agreeing with the insights from the "big" scholars, however, this paper approaches to the problem of "normalcy and abnormalcy" slightly different from their ways of analysis: This paper looks at the problem of "normalcy and abnormalcy", through carefully relating it with the problem of the stranger. Because the author strongly envisages that not only both problems are inherent matters of social-moral issue, but the stranger is commonly characterized as the abnormalcy by the people. More specifically, this paper deals with the fact that the line of demarcation between normalcy and abnormalcy is blurred. Next, this paper suggests the reasons why the normalcy detests the abnormalcy. Finally, this paper examines the necessity of the abnormalcy to the society as well as the fact that the abnormalcy is normal phenomenon.
