다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aimes at building a theoretical basis and proposing directions for ethnic tourism development in Korea. To structuralize ethnic development in tourism, two factors are discussed, authenticity and commoditization of traditional or ethnic culture. The direction for ethnic development in tourism is proposed as follows; 1. preserving cultural authenticity First, a direction of the policy has to be established and developed so that Koreans can be aware of and form their ethnic identity voluntarily. Second, a direction of the policy has to be established and developed so that Koreans can internalize and recreate their own ethnic culture and imported culture voluntarily. 2. commoditizing of authentic ethnic culture First, a direction has to be established by the strategy of commoditization through routed or staged types respectively, in relation to the degree of ethnic preservation and contextual situation of ethnic culture. Second, it is necessary to make a man power for management of cultural events. Third, it is necessary to create maps for cultural events to improve distribution of products. Fourth, it is necessary to introduce the interpretation of ethnic cultural events to improve cross-cultural understandings. Fifth, it is necessary to continually promote the uniqueness and heterogeneity of ethnic and traditional Korean culture abroad.
