니체에게 있어서 ‘자유의지’와‘자기조형’의 양립가능성 = The possibility of compatibility between “free will” and “self-creation” by Nietzshe

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The possibility of compatibility between the concept of “free will” and the concept of “self-creation” by Nietzshe is regarded as a significant problem. While Nietzsche expresses his skeptic perspective about the traditional concept of free will, he actively insists the possibility of “self-creation,” and these two views do not seem congruent. If there is no form of free will, the self-creation under free will may not be implemented. With respect to this, it is divided into the position to insist the probability of compatibility between the concept of “free will” and the concept of “self-creation” (compatible interpretation) and the position of denying the probability of compatibility (incompatible interpretation). In this paper, through the major incompatible interpretation by Brian Leiter and the major compatible interpretation by Ba-da Kim, it will be clarified that any compatible interpretation is not possible as the understanding of free will by Nietzsche is close to a concomitant phenomenon and as there is no concept of “self-control” or statement about the ontological condition of “self-control”.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

니체의 ‘자유의지’ 개념과 ‘자기 조형’ 개념의 양립가능성은 중요한 문제로 판단된다. 왜냐하면, 한 편으로 니체는 전통적인 자유의지 개념에 대한 회의주의적인 입장을 표명하면서, 다른 한 편으로는 ‘자기 조형’의 가능성을 적극적으로주장하는데, 이 두 주장은 정합적이지 않는 것처럼 보이기 때문이다. 만일 그 어떤 형태의 자유의지도 존재하지 않는다면, 자기 의지에 입각한 자기 조형은 실현될 수 없기 때문이다. 이 문제에 대해 크게 ‘자유의지’ 개념과 ‘자기 조형’ 개념의 양립가능성을 주장하는 입장(양립주의적 해석)과 양립가능성을 부정하는 입장(비양립주의적 해석)으로 나뉜다.
본 논문에서는 레이터(Brian Leiter)로 대표되는 비양립주의적 해석과 김바다 (Ba-da Kim)로 대표되는 양립주의적 해석에 대한 분석을 통해 니체의 자유의지 이해는 일종의 부수현상에 가까우며, 니체 사상에는 ‘자기 통제(Self Control)’에 대한 개념 혹은 그 가능성의 존재론적 조건에 대한 언급이 애초에 결여 되어 있기 때문에 그 어떤 양립주의적 해석도 가능할 수 없음이 분명해질 것이다.
