This study targets to examine the typical transmission of Sokcho’s lion dance in comparison with the performance of Bukcheong lion dance - the current status of transmission of Sokcho lion dance. Sokcho Sajanori is a migrant traditional dance that was introduced from Bukcheong in South Hamgyong Province which came to South Korea. Bukcheong Sajanori is a community culture in which residents wear lion masks, dance, and have fun on the first lunar month. This performance is a ritual play that pray for peace and prosperity in the village. Currently, this performance is handed down in two regions in Seoul and Sokcho.At that time, in Sokcho, Bukcheong Sajanoreum was called Sokcho Bukcheong Sajanoreum, and gradually it was called Sokcho Sajanoreum. This play was passed down as Sajanori, matching the local characteristics of the Sokcho region. Sajanori will serve as a mixed culture that will bring regional integration (sympathy) and communication in future cultural exchanges between North and South Korea.
