The serotypes and antibiotic susceptibilities for the 44 strains of Serratia marcescens isolated from clinical materials were investigated.
There were 5 different serotypes among the 11 strains completely serotyped. Those were 4 strains of D5:H11, 3 strains of O5:H12, 2 straing of O5:H8, and one strain each of O5:H9 and O11:H2. Antibiotic resistant patterns with the corresponding serotypes were usually consistent, but not significantly different among serotypes. Most of the isolates were multiply resistant to five or six antibiotics used.
These results suggest that the small hospital cross infections might be existed and widespread distribution of multiply resistant Serratia marcescens in Korea.
