Regional Difference of Elderly Poverty: the Abandoned Generation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the descriptive statistics and panel probit model for analyzing the elderly poverty problems according to the regions. In theoretical aspects, poverty level of elderly households is influenced from the disposal income, marital status, gender, and public pension in order. Especially rural female households fall into below the poverty level easily comparing with urban male one. In order to prevent that the elderly people fall into the poverty level, the government should provide the job opportunity for increasing the disposal income including the promotion of pension system. In terms of methodology, this paper suggests a new method how to handle the panel data using panel probit model. In policy aspect, the government should promote new and supplementary welfare systems such as Housing and Farmland pension systems in order to improve the income replacement rate of public pension system.
