      The properties of a PVDF membrane were modified to yield a significant increase in antimicrobial activityand to enhance the waterflux. An increase in waterflux was induced by a mechanical stretching processthat increased the degree of crystallinity in the polymeric membrane. The hydrophilic modification had agreat influence on membrane fouling resistance and waterflux. The antibacterial activity was deactivatedby the sustained and continuous release of silver ions. Ag-PVA/GA-treated PVDF membranes exhibitedsuperior antibacterial activity, with a clear zone of inhibition of 3.11.2 mm against Escherichia colibacteria and bio-efficacy against colony growth.
