요한복음 17:17-19에 나타난 거룩(hagiazw)의 의미 = The Sanctification(hagiazw) in John 17:17-19

The meaning of the verb ‘sanctify’ (hagiazw) in John 17:17-19 has been understood as the consecration or the atonement. But such an interpretation is not in harmony with the context. So the meaning of the sanctification is to infer from a new aspect.
First, the verb ‘sanctify’ (hagiazw) and its adjective ‘holy’ (hagioj) in the fourth gospel is connected with the oneness with God, which the relevant context indicates. Besides the truth and the word of God as the method of the sanctification indicate not only the oneness of Jesus with God but also the way to the participation of the disciples in this oneness in the gospel. Finally, the context of John 17 stresses these two points; especially the participation of the disciples in this oneness between God and Jesus. Out of this interpretation, the sanctification in John 17:17-19 is to be understood as follows. The prayer for the sanctification of the disciples (17:17) intends that the disciples participate in the mutual indwelling of God and Jesus. This participation makes the world know that God has sent Jesus in the world, namely the way to the mission in this gospel (17:21-23). Because of it, the sending of the disciples in the world follows this prayer (17:18). This understanding of the sanctification can also be applied to the sanctification of Jesus himself in 17:19a, because Jesus was about to go to God (13:1; 17:11), which means his return to the oneness with God (17:5). And this sanctification of Jesus himself leads to the sanctification of disciples (17:19b) namely the participation in the oneness of Jesus with God, because his going to God aims at the preparation of a place for the disciples, which enables the participation of the disciples in the oneness between God and Jesus (14:2 and 14:23). For this reason, the sanctification in John 17:17-19 is to understood as the oneness with God.
