NaCaPO4:Eu2+x (NCP:Eu2+x ) and NaCa1−xPO4:Eu2+
x phosphors (x = 0.005 − 0.05) were prepared
by using stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric solid-state reaction methods and their luminescence
properties were investigated for white-light ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs).
The emission intensity of NaCa0.99PO4:Eu2+
0.01 prepared by using the stoichiometric solid-state
reaction method was higher than that of NCP:Eu2+
0.01 prepared by using the non-stoichiometric
solid-state reaction method at a sintering temperature of 850 ˚C. The emission intensity of the
NaCa1−xPO4:Eu2+
x phosphor increased with increasing Eu2+ concentration upto 1 mol% and then
decreased. However, that of NCP:Eu2+
x was maximum at a 3-mol% Eu2+ concentration. The temperature
dependent relative intensity of NaCa0.99PO4:Eu2+
0.01 was found to be similar to that of
NCP:Eu2+
0.01. Therefore, we suggest that the NaCa1−xPO4:Eu2+
x phosphor prepared by using the
stoichiometric doping method is more efficient for use as a green phosphor in UV-LEDs.
