This study has analyzed how the teacher education program is constructed and managed to promote the prospective elementary teachers’ expertise on Practical Arts Education in National University of Education. Especially, the research was focused on whether and how the students in National University of Education have been appropriately learning the content knowledges and teaching methods for each domain of Elementary Practical Arts through the Practical Arts Education course.
282 senior students enrolled nationwidely in National University of Education were employed as research subjects and a questionnaire was administered to them just before the graduation for the present study. The study results were analyzed by finding the frequencies, means, and percentiles.
The research findings have shown that (1) the study of content knowledge in each domain of Elementary Practical Arts was not covered in balanced fashion, (2) most Practical Arts Education courses have dealt dominantly with only theories without vivid experiment in all domains of Elementary Practical Arts except computer domain, and (3) the teaching methods for Elementary Practical Arts were mostly neglected.
