This study is designed to evaluate the degree of the mentally ill patient's feeling about the emotional support by his family, the burden of the a patient's family member due to their patients, and the correlation between the patient's feeling about his family support and the degree of the his family burden.
The subjects were 78 hospitalized patients in the psychiatric ward and their family members from June 1998 to December 1998.
The measure was used the epidemiological questionnaire, the scale of patient's feeling about the family support, and the scale of the family burden due to patient.
The data was analyzed by the SSPS(Statistical Packages for Social Science).
The results were as follow;
1. the degree of the family burden was 77.60±15.28, and its grade was 3.50/5.0.
2. the degree of the patient's feeling of family support was 29.06±7.74, and its grade was 2.64/5.0.
3. this study was resulted that the lower degree of family burden was the higher degree of patient's feeling about family support(F=14.40, p=0.001).
4. the longer period of disorder was the higher degree of patient's feeling of family support (F=3.87, p=0.05), and the degree of patient's feeling of family support was higher when his family has a religion(p=0.02).
