Objective
This study was designed to examine the effects of Extracts of Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang on the lipid lowering, anti-oxidation and concentration of proinflammatory cytokines in Rats fed High Fat Diet
Methods
Male rats 191.38±5.21g fed high fat diet for 8 weeks and 32 rats (above 400 g) were divided into 4 groups. Each of 8 rats was devided into a control group and experimental groups. We fed a control group of rats a basal diet and administered normal saline (100 ㎎/㎏, 1 time/1 day) for 4 weeks. And we fed each experimental group of rats basal diet and administered and Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang (100 ㎎/㎏, 200 ㎎/㎏, 300 ㎎/㎏, 1 time/1 day) for 4 weeks. At the end of the experiment, the rats were sacrificed to determine their chemical composition. We measured lipid of plasma and liver, concentration of proinflammatory cytokines, anti-oxidative activity, ceruloplasmin, NO2-NO3 and α-acid protein.
Results
1. Concentration of plasma free fatty acid (FFA) and triglyceride (TG) showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang groups. Concentration of plasma total cholesterole (TC) and low density lipoprotein(LDL)-cholesterole showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaeng euigamtanggamibang groups than that of control group. Concentration of liver TC and TG showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaengeuigamtang gamibang groups than that of control group.
2. Concentration of plasma and liver thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS) showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaengeuigamtang gamibang groups than that of control group. The values of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) activity showed a tendency to increase in Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang groups than that of control group.
3. The values of plasma AST and ALT activity showed no significant difference in all treatment groups.
4. Concentration of plasma interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaengeuigamtang gamibang groups than that of control group. Concentration of plasma NO, Ceruloplasmin, α1-acid glycoprotein showed a tendency to decrease in Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang groups than that of control group.
Conclusions
According to this study, the Extract of Mahaengeuigamtanggamibang showed a positive effect of lowering lipid, anti-oxidation and a control of producing pro-inflammatory cytokines.
