일제강점기 교과서에 나타난 중국 형상 고찰 ―『조선어독본』과 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』을 중심으로 = A Study on the Chinese Images in Textbooks in the Period of Japanese Occupation ―Focus on the Basic Reader of Joseon Language and『訂正普通學校學徒用國語讀本』

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 식민지 동화교육이라는 특수성을 띤 교육하에 총독부의 목적과 취지에 맞는, 기본과정인 현재의 초등학교 과정에 해당하는 보통학교와 공 학교에서 학습한 당시 국어교과서 즉 일제강점기 조선총독부가 편찬한 초등학생용 일본어 교과서인 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』(1911)과 『조선어독본』(1923)을 기초자료로 일제강점기 일본이 중국에 대한 형상변화를 살펴보고자 한다. 주지하는 바와 같이, 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』과 『조선어독본』은 조선인을 상대로 가르치는 국어교과서 임에도 불구하고 중국에 대한 내용이 많이 언급된다. 특히 일본이 중국 자원이나 영토, 문호 개방에 대한 욕망은 아주 적나라하게 표현되어 있다. 또한 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』과 『조선어독본』은 편찬연도로 볼 때, 10년이란 차이를 두고 있다. 따라서 이 시기를 고려해보면, 일본은 뒤로 갈수록 대일본제국 사상, 대동아권의 수립야망이 더욱 노골적으로 표현되어 뒤늦게 편찬된 『조선어독본』에 중국에 대한 질타표현이 더욱 심화되었으리라 생각될 것이다. 하지만 두 교과서의 수록 양상을 살펴보면 이와 정반대이다. 따라서 본고는 이 두 자료를 바탕으로, 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』과 『조선어독본』에 표현된 일본이 중국 이미지에 대한 양상을 살펴보고 두 교과서는 어떠한 변화 추세를 겪고 있으며 그러한 변화를 가져온 원인을 살펴보고자 한다. 더불어 필자가 조선인을 대상으로 가르치는 국어독본임에도 불구하고 여기에 주목하는 이유는 두 독본에 일본이 중국에 대한 욕망과 야망이 주·측면으로 표현되어 일본이 초기 단계에서부터 중국에 희망을 품고 침략을 꿈꾸는 것을 이해하는데 도움이 되고자 한다. 따라서 본고는 이상의 논의를 바탕으로 일제강점기 조선총독부에서 조선인 초등학생을 상대로 편찬한 일본어 교과서인 『정정보통학교학도용국어독본』과 『조선어독본』을 기초자료로, 그간 이루어지지 않은 중국에 관한 논의를 펼쳐 일본이 중국에 대한 이미지 변화를 고찰해 보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is to discuss the changes of Chinese images in 『訂正普通 學校學徒用國語讀本』(1911) and Basic Reader of Joseon Language (1923), which were compiled by the Japanese Government-General of Korea for the sake of assimilation through education, and were taught at regular schools and public schools. As everyone knows, even though Basic Reader of Joseon Language and 『訂正普通學校學徒用國語讀本』 were language textbooks for Koreans, there were a lot of contents which talked about China. In particular, the desires of Japanese for the resources and territory of China, and the Open Door Policy are completely described. In terms of the time of compilation, it took ten years from the Basic Reader of Joseon Language until 『訂正普通學校學 徒用國語讀本』. If we take the time into consideration, we may think, as time went on, the ideas of Japanese about Great Japanese Imperial and the ambitions of establishing Greater East Asia Sphere may be more directly expressed, so there may be more expressions which denounced China in later compiled version of Basic Reader of Joseon Language. However, if we examine the contents of the two textbooks, it is quite the opposite. In this case, this paper will focus on the follow aspects, to examine the Chinese Images of Japanese in 『訂正普通學校學 徒用國語讀本』and Basic Reader of Joseon Language, and to find out the changing trend which the two textbooks experienced and the reasons why these changes occurred. Although the two textbooks were for the Koreans, the reason why I pay attention to them is because two textbooks expressed the desire and ambition of Japanese for China and I would like to help understanding the dreams Japanese of invading China from the early stage. On the basis of the above arguments, this paper is to examine the changes of Chinese images in 『訂正普通學校學徒用國 語讀本』and Basic Reader of Joseon Language, which were compiled by the Japanese Government-General of Korea in the period of Japanese colonial rule.
