Names of mountains or regions in Korea can be divided into two parts. the first part is called the anterior element and indicates the relationship between its referent and the mountains or regions. The second part is called the posterior element and indicates whether it is a region or mountain.
This study categorizes the posterior elements of the names of the mountains in Cheong-won district, Chungbuk Province, and investigates the origins or the etymology of such elements.
The elements under investigation are those that are found in names in ancient/old Korean documents, and include gae, gogae, gol, got, gi, tal, tteum, maru, mal, mi, bawi, buri, bul, and theo.
