A Study on the cogitation system of author
for the korean classic novel education
- The Novel 'Gu Un Mong'-

The purpose of this study is to propose the necessity of learning knowledge about the cogitation system of author who the korean classic novel. For this, I analyzed and interpreted the novel 'Gu Un Mong', which is in the high school text book now in use.
For years, the study of which theory and interpretation of korean classic novel has been going on. But the discussion, which reorganization of this study product on the quality of classic novel education, has little. And also the quality of novel education bases on the modern literature theory. This tendency is unreasonable for to interpret and appreciate classic literature. So this study would propose the necessity of knowledge education that to learn the classic novel author's cogitation system in the classic novel class. And this should be included education contents.
In order to interpret and appreciate works correctly, we need the knowledge about novel theory. But the readers interpret classic novel variously or incorrectly even though they learned same theory. How did it come that they do?
Literature is for to communicate between an author and many readers. At this communication, many readers understand works based on their own current cogitation but the author wrote this work based on his own cogitation in his age. It becomes more difficult for understanding works as far away the period gap between each author and reader. In same age, we feel comfortable for understanding and interpreting works. At this time, we just try to recognize author's cogitation and his message. But classic novel wrote in old days. So we need those times' public morals, customs, society system, economic system etc. Especially we need understanding about author's cogitation in his ages. After that, we could correct understand and interpret his work.
For this, I analyzed and interpreted the novel 'Gu Un Mong', which is in the high school text book now in use. And I confirmed that the necessity of learning author's cogitation system in classic novel class.
The novel 'Gu Un Mong' was written by Kim Man Jung. It is important that Kim's cogitation in his times and we should know how it had been melted in 'Gu Un Mong'. I tried to analyse protagonist's conflicts and explain the meaning of this novel. From this foundation, I try understanding and interpreting his cogitation. Also for a feasibility study, I verified and inspected 'Seo Poe Man Pill(西浦漫筆)'which is his another works, and 'Keum Kang Kyung(金剛經)' which is the Sutra.
Through these process I could confirm why he wrote this work and what was his message to give readers in this novel correctly. This is so much meaningful for to have correct view and interpret works.
Especially classic novelists who are estimated critical realist in literature, 'Heo Gyun', 'Park Jee Woon' include 'Kim Man Jung' wrote their works for to point out the society matters and solve these problems not just for interesting and moving.
That is they implicated their thought and values in their novel against the rulling class's discourse. So we need to have view point authors' cogitation in his times and with this we should understand and interpret those works. When we could this, we would know final meaning and correct interpret classic works.
So korean classic novel education should be included these contents of which the author's thoughts and values, that is his cogitation in his age, for students. When it would be, students could have a right view for understanding and interpreting classic works. And also people who study korean classic novel education should struggle to prepare educational contents from formal grounding.
