The surface of fumed nano-silica(nano-SiO2) was treated with alkyl silazane to change from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. Aluminum Trihydroxide(nano-ATH) was surface treated with vinyl silazane to improve electrical properties(high voltage direct current [HVDC] breakdown strength and tracking resistance). A kneader was prepared by mixing surface-modified nano-SiO2 and surface-modified nano-ATH with liquid silicon. and the effect on electrical properties of surface-modified nano-ATH was studied for application to heavy electrical equipment. Surface modification was confirmed through thermogravimetric analysis and contact angle analysis. As the nano-ATH content increased(±), HVDC breakdown strength and tracking resistance increased significantly. As the nano-ATH content increased, the leakage current that occurred initially was delayed and the current intensity decreased. The amount of erosion also decreased.
