This experiment was carried out to select the adaptable onion cultivar to the Uisung region in Kyoungbuk among mid cultivar 'Magicgold', mid-late cultivar 'Superwhang' and late cultivar 'Nongwoodaego', and to find out the optimum amount of application with putting 1,500kg, 2,500kg, and 3,000kg of pig barnyard manure per 10a for onion cultivation.
In the late cultivar, 'Nongwoodaego', growth was better, and the bulb weight was heavier and the yield was higher than other cultivars. The bulb shape index(height/diameter) of mid cultivar, 'Magicgold' was 1.02 on the harvested bulb, so enough bulbing was not accomplished. The inorganic content of harvested bulbs between each cultivar was not signigicant. The rate of decayed bulb during storage was shown the lowest in mid-late cultivar 'Superwhang'.
Growth as influenced by the pig barnyard manure amount of application was shown to be good in the smaller amount of application, and it was the best in the 1,500kgㆍ10a-1. The bulb weight and yield was shown the maximum in the 1,500kgㆍ10a-1 amount of application with pig barnyard manure. The nitrogen content of harvested bulbs was the lowest in the 1,500kgㆍ10a-1 amount of application with pig barnyard manure. The rate of decayed bulb during storage was increased in proportion to increase the pig barnyard manure amount of application.
