벌레와 인간-이청준, 김영현, 장정일의 소설을 중심으로 = Worms and Humans-Focusing on the Novels of Lee Cheong-jun, Kim Young-hyun, and Jang Jung-il

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 1980년대 소설에 나타난 ‘벌레-되기’를 향한 반복적 시도로부터 벌레와 인간의 관계망을 규명하는 것을 주요 과제로 삼는다. 작업의 관건은 ‘벌레’와 ‘인간’이라는 위계적･이분법적 구분이 아니라 벌레와 인간 사이의 상호연결과 이행에 관한 새로운 사유를 창출하는 것이다. 이에 변신의 관점을 취하여, 이청준의 ｢벌레 이야기｣(1985), 김영현의 ｢벌레｣(1989), 장정일의 ｢아이｣(1990) 세 편의 소설을 분석하였다. 세 편의 소설에 출현한 벌레는 인간중심주의적･주체중심주의적 전망이 전달하는 사유에 대한 비판과 통찰을 제공하는 척도로서, 벌레와 관계적으로 존재하는 인간을 가시화한다는 점이 주목된다. 2장에서는 인간의 지위와 자리를 만드는 상대적인 개념으로서 ‘벌레’의 형상을 선취한 카프카의 ｢변신｣에 대해, ‘1980년대 카프카는 무엇이었나’를 묻고 답했다. 3장에서는 ｢벌레 이야기｣와 ｢벌레｣, ｢아이｣에 나타난 벌레-되기의 시도를 통해 벌레와 인간의 관계로 표현되되는 이분법적 구조와 지식이 와해되는 과정을 주의 깊게 살폈다. 1980년대 문학에 반복된 ‘벌레-되기’의 경험과 사유가 우리로 하여금 되기(becoming)의 과정 중에 있는 변형에 관한 상상, 그리하여 휴머니즘적 주체로 위치해왔던 ‘인간(Man)’의 전복을 감행하게 하는 자원이 된다는 점을 이 글은 주장한다.

This article aims to investigate the network of relationships between insects and humans through the recurring attempts at “becoming-insect” found in 1980s literature. The key to this endeavor is not the hierarchical and binary distinction between “insect” and “human,” but rather the creation of a new way of thinking about the interconnections and transitions between insects and humans. Adopting a perspective on transformation that transitions into something new rather than reverting to or converging with the existing, the study analyzes three novels: Lee Cheong-jun’s “The Story of a Bug” (1985), Kim Young-hyun’s “Bug” (1989), and Jang Jung-il’s “Child” (1990). The insects appearing in these three novels are noteworthy as they provide critical insights into anthropocentric and subject-centric viewpoints, thereby making visible humans who exist in relation to insects.
In Chapter 2, the article addresses Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis,” which prefigured the figure of the “bug” as a relative concept that defines the position and status of humans, asking and answering the question, “What was Kafka in the 1980s?” Chapter 3 carefully examines the process by which the dichotomous structures and knowledge expressed in the relationship between insects and humans collapse through the attempts at becoming-insect found in “The Story of a Bug,” “Bug,” and “Child.” The article argues that the experiences and thoughts on “becoming-insect” repeatedly depicted in 1980s literature serve as a resource that compels us to imagine transformations in the process of becoming, thereby subverting the concept of “Man” as a humanistic subject.
