근대화 시기 전통지역의 변화 : 內浦에 대한 역사지리적 접근 = Changes in Traditional Region during the Era of Modernization:A historical-geographical approach to the deconstruction of Nae-Po

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국의 근대화 시기는 식민지 역사와 맞물리면서 정치·경제·사회적으로 많은 변화가 있었던 시기이다. 이러한 변화는 다양한 형태로 지역의 특징에 영향을 미쳤으며 그 영향은 오늘날까지도 지역에 투영되어 나타나기도 한다. 홍주목이라는 행정구역과 수로교통과의 깊은 관련성으로 지역의 특성이 만들어졌던 내포는 근대화 시기에 행정구역 및 교통수단의 변화와 함께 지역의 내부구조가 변화함으로써 지역으로서의 의미를 상실하는 결정적인 변화를 겪었다. 1896년에 홍주부가 폐지되고 1914년에 군·현들이 통폐합됨으로써 내포를 규정하던 행정적 외피가 사라졌다. 또한 수로교통은 식민지형 교역을 담당하는 형태로 변질되었으며 장항선 철도가 내포를 관통하는 노선으로 부설되었다. 이러한 변화를 배경으로 전통적으로 내포의 중심이었던 홍주 대신에 예산과 광천이 상업의 중심지로 부상하면서 내포는 경인상권, 군산상권으로 분할되었으며 장항선 철도 연변의 중심지들이 성장하기 시작하였다. 이후로 내포는 주민의 인식과 기록에서 점차 사라져가기 시작하여 화석화된 지역으로 변모하였다

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Many of the changes in Korea which occurred during the modernization era, especially under colonial Japanese rule, influenced regional characteristics. In the preindustrial era, Nae-Po was known for its developed waterways and its close relationship with the administrative district, Hong-Ju Mok. However, changes in the
administrative district and the transportation system during the modernization era erased Nae-Po’s identity as a region. Hong-Ju Bu had been abolished in 1896, and many of the counties had merged into new administrative
districts in 1914. Thus, the administrative umbrella that had served as the boundary for Nae-Po had disappeared. The waterways were redirected to carry out colonial trading, and a new railroad(Jang-Hang Seon) was constructed and penetrated the center of Nae-Po. Due to these changes, Hong-Ju, which had been a central place of Nae-Po, was replaced by Ye-San and Gwang-Chun, which began to grow into new commercial centers. And towns near the Jang-Hang Seon emerged and developed. As a consequence, Nae-Po slowly began to disappear from the memories of inhabitants and the records of documents. Nae-Po was relegated to the annals of history.
