      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      <Abstract>
      This is very short New Historicist reading of Charles Dickens's American Notes. It is
      an attempt to read Dickens's American Notes on the basis of the cultural and political
      environment across the ocean in the 19th century. Even though America grappled
      political freedom from England, she ironically had to depend upon the Old World's
      garden for a fresh cultural nourishment. Hence Dickens's travel book was welcomed
      despite the fact that the writer looked down upon the New World's utilitarian culture
      and did not make an insightful report, and instead, copied from the existing travel
      books, to meet the publisher's commercial time table and make money.
      It is interesting to note that America and England have exchanged their positions as
      colonialists. So these days, America, instead of England, is the target of the post
      colonial efforts.
