The study examined the parents' type of language control to know what the parents' type of language control has effects on child's social competence and self regulation competence.
For this study, the parents' types of language control was set as independent variable, the child's social competence and the self regulation competence as subordinary variable, and the parents' type of language control were set as position-oriented control, person-oriented control, and imperative control. And 4 subordinary variables for child's social competence were set as leadership, capability, hypersensitiveness and apprehension, 2 subordinary variables for child's self regulation competence was set as self inhibition and self-assertion.
The study involved 100 children of 3-5 year old and their 200 parents in Daegu Metropolitan City and its results are as follows.
1. The father's type of language control was in the order of position-oriented, imperative and person-oriented, and mother's type of language control was in the order of position-oriented, person-oriented, and imperative.
2. In the father's type of language control, the child's leadership was in the order of position-oriented, imperative and person-oriented, the child's capability was in the order of position-oriented, person-oriented and imperative, and the child's hypersensitiveness was in the order of position-oriented, imperative and person-oriented. This shows that the position-oriented father has the most positive effects on the child's social competence.
In the mother's type of language control, the child's leadership was in the order of person-oriented, position-oriented and imperative, the child's competence was in the order of person-oriented, position-oriented, and imperative. This shows that person-oriented mother has the most positive effects on the child's social competence.
3. In the father's type of language control, the child's self-assertion was in the order of position-oriented, person-oriented and imperative, and the child's self-regulation was in the order of person-oriented, position-oriented and imperative. This show that the position-oriented father has the most positive effects on the child's self-regulation competence.
In the mother's type of language control, both of the child's self-regulation and self-assertion were in the order of person-oriented, position-oriented and imperative. This shows that the person-oriented mother has the most positive effects on the child's self-regulation competence.
